Octavia and Tamarie, the Directors of Yoga Shala, offer in-depth personal mentoring for those aspiring to become Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers. We work directly with mentees to help them develop as practitioners and teachers, and to pass the Iyengar Teacher Certification test. Mentoring includes one-on-one meetings, apprenticing in classes, and small group teacher training workshops.

Becoming a Certified teacher involves a sustained commitment which includes:
- attending class regularly with your mentoring teachers
- sustaining a home practice, and
- undertaking a rigorous course of study on asanas, pranayamas, philosophy, anatomy, and more subjects.
Iyengar Teachers Workshops
Octavia and Tamarie offer periodic workshops for teachers-in-training and certified teachers in the Iyengar Method. Participants receive personalized feedback on their teaching and learn a wide variety of teaching skills. We also present material on sequencing, modifying poses for various problems, therapeutics, and many more subjects.
Assisting
Once teachers-in-training have some experience, they can be assistants in a regular class. This apprenticeship model offers the opportunity for observation, hands-on training, and eventually, the chance to teach poses and assist students in a supervised setting. In our experience assisting is one of the most important ways to learn the art of teaching.
